What is a data fabric?

A data fabric is an architecture that connects data across disparate sources, storage systems, and clouds through metadata-driven automation, giving a unified way to find, access, and govern data without necessarily moving it into one place. It is a connective layer over data that stays where it is, not a new place to store it.
How it works
A data fabric relies on active metadata: it catalogs what data exists across every connected system, tracks how those systems relate, and uses that metadata to automate discovery, access, and governance across the whole estate. Queries and integrations get routed to wherever the data actually lives, rather than requiring a full migration into a single warehouse first.
Why it matters
Large organizations rarely have all their data in one system by choice: acquisitions, regional data residency rules, and legacy systems nobody wants to touch all leave data scattered. A fabric makes that scatter usable without a multi-year consolidation project, at the cost of depending on metadata quality across systems you may not control.
OptimaFlo and data fabric

That consolidation is the point, not a limitation to work around. If your data genuinely cannot be consolidated, spread across systems you cannot migrate or do not control, a data fabric solves a problem OptimaFlo is not built to solve.
