What is reverse ETL?

Last updated Monday, Aug 3, 2026

Reverse ETL moves modeled data out of a warehouse or lakehouse and pushes it back into the operational tools a business runs on: a CRM, an ad platform, a support desk. It closes the loop between analysis and action, so a sales rep sees a churn score inside Salesforce instead of a dashboard nobody opens.

How it works

A reverse ETL tool reads a modeled table, usually one already built by a transformation layer, maps its columns to fields in a destination system's API, and syncs on a schedule or trigger. The destination is a place people already work, not a place they have to visit to find the number.

Why it matters

A great metric that only lives in a dashboard often goes unused, because checking a dashboard is one more thing between someone and their actual job. Putting the number where the work already happens, inside the CRM record a rep is already looking at, closes that gap and turns analysis into something a team actually acts on.

Does OptimaFlo do reverse ETL

No, not today. OptimaFlo runs the other direction and further: raw sources into governed Iceberg tables, modeled through Raw, Clean, and Ready, out to dashboards and answers, with the quality checks watching underneath. If pushing a modeled number back into a CRM or ad platform is the job in front of you right now, a reverse ETL tool does that job and OptimaFlo does not attempt it.

That is a real gap in scope, not a hedge. Reverse ETL moves numbers into Salesforce. It does not tell you which numbers are right, and that is the part OptimaFlo is built for: the modeling, the quality checks, and the answer underneath the number before it goes anywhere.
